The Fashion Book that changed my life.

I'd like to think I'd be described as an avid reader. Those 30 minutes spent on the train each morning allows me to shove my nose in a good book and tune out the world for a little while before I have to dash to a lecture.
My particular favourites are usually biographies. It seems odd when books catered to my age group are usually fiction but I must have a nosy character.
However, there is one fashion book that changed my life - The Cheap Date Guide to Style written by Kira Jolliffe & Bay Garnett.
Never did I think a book I picked up in Poundland would have such a great affect on me. This book taught me what it is that makes a person stylish and why black opaque tights are so important! I like that it isn't just a 'fashion/magazine/outfit' book with a few broad ideas centered around a handbag that costs a small fortune - it is so much more.
It taught me about identity and non-judgementalism. It taught me why a silhouette shouldn't be forgotten and to look further than just the item of clothing; to see the material and the craftsmanship.
As someone who grew up a little shy to venture out of their fashion comfort zone, this book allowed me to realise that it's okay to be different and have an interest in something a little bit quirky; to swim against the 'trends' current.
IT'S OK TO BE AN INDIVIDUAL.
That message I will carry on throughout life.
Much Love, Katie x
