Did you know that big shiny ball in the sky is actually the sun? Me either. It's an odd concept, especially in Scotland, but once a year we get to bask in the sunshine - even if it is only for a week. When the weather decides to perk up a bit, I like to make sure I'm as brown as a berry whilst I fantasise about being in the Bahamas. Sometimes sunbeds and spray tans aren't an option and you need a quick fix so here's my top 3 favourite Self-Tanners:

  1. Dove Summer Glow. This moisturiser/tanner combo is excellent for those that suffer from dry skin or eczema/psoriasis as it doesn't cling to dry patches. It is a gradual tan so it's best to apply it at night and give it time to build up for the next day. It does a good job of being streak-free and looks very natural on all skin tones, although make sure to thoroughly wash your hands afterwards or you'll be in danger of tangerine hands - not a good look.

2. Rimmel London Sun Shimmer. I personally purchase the medium shade as I like to look like I've just arrived back from the Caribbean. This tan is a life saver for last minute sunshine in a bottle. Although advertised as gradual it goes on instantly as a nice rich brown colour and doesn't have that strange green tinge that many fake tans can have. The smell isn't that off putting (although it does have the distant stench of biscuits and curry sauce - but that's to be expected with most tanners.) A little goes a long way with this product, which means tanning your legs isn't as hard as it usually is and you can be out the door in about 20 minutes with its fast drying power too. instanttangradualglow_product

3. St. Moriz Tanning Mousse. This stuff has to be in every girls beauty cupboard - it's fantastic! Even almost every time, fast drying and you'll be as golden as a Goddess in two minutes. This mousse is also excellent at fading gracefully and without annoying patches, which means you can top it up and maintain a fab tan all year! (I promise I'm not sponsored I genuinely love the crap out of this stuff - it's so clever!) I like to use a spongey mitt to apply it as it gives the most even coverage.
